Luxor to Aswan: Four Nights Aboard the Sonesta
Description
The classic upstream run, sailing south with the sites in the order they were built to be seen. Four nights full board aboard a five-star cruiser, with Karnak and the Theban necropolis at the Luxor end and Philae and the cataract at Aswan.
Shore excursions are guided by a resident Egyptologist and included in the fare. Between temples the boat simply moves, which is the point: the cultivation, the water buffalo, the brick kilns, all of it passing at walking pace.

Itinerary
Embark at Luxor, east bank temples
Board before lunch and settle in. Karnak in the afternoon as the light drops, then Luxor Temple lit after dark. Overnight moored in Luxor.
West bank, sail to Edfu
An early crossing for the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Back on board for lunch, then cast off south through the Esna lock.
Edfu and Kom Ombo
Horus at Edfu by caleche from the mooring, the most complete temple standing in Egypt. Kom Ombo in the late afternoon, a few steps up from the water.
Aswan: Philae and the cataract
Moor at Aswan. Philae by private motorboat, then the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. The day closes under sail around Elephantine Island.
Disembark at Aswan
Breakfast on board, then transfer to Aswan airport or your onward hotel. Abu Simbel can be added as a pre-flight excursion.
